100 Things


Allow me to list out a few things about myself:

1. I was born in Atlanta, Georgia but can’t remember one thing about the city.
2. My parents named me Ayana because it means “beautiful flower” in Kiswahili.
3. Up until recently I hated my middle name, Aisha.
4. I went to four different elementary schools in three different states.
5. I’m not an army brat but my mother moved around like we were.
6. The best state I’ve live in was by far New Mexico. Nothing is better than seeing mountains out beyond        your back yard.
7. The first time I realized I was black was in New Mexico when I was picked on because of my hair.
8. Whenever I think of place to call home my mind always retunes to Takoma Park, Maryland.
9. One of my earliest memories was playing in snow that was up to my thighs with my cousin
10. I wish I had better relationships with my grandmothers.
11. My bestfriend and I have known each other since we were in diapers
12. My mother and I moved from New Mexico to Miami, Florida in a station wagon.
13. I’ve lived in Miami, Florida for the longest period of time
14. I haven’t been back to Miami since my second year in college and I don’t miss it.
15. I use to always wish I had siblings. Once I turned 12 I found out I had four, two sisters and two brothers.
16. I’m in love with futons and sofa beds.
17. The first concert I ever attended was to see the Back Street Boys.
18. I use to be in drama at a magnet school until everyone found out I had stage fright.
19. I love karaoke but always choke when I get up to the mike.
20. I use to hate Gainesville, Florida but its eclectic style grew on me.
21. I’ve never broken a bone.
22. I hate okra with a passion.
23. I use to be called an Oreo in grade school.
24. I’m the worst speller in the world. I blame spell check.
25. My first cell phone was a black and white screen pre-paid virgin mobile device that I loved playing snake on.
26. I’ve had a learner license for about six years.
27. I love walking and public transportation
28. The use to think that running a 5k without stopping was impossible not I run at least 20 miles a week.
29. I’d love to triathlons when I grow up.
30. I’m a recovering undercover over lover.
31. Long distance relationships are hard, but I’ve found someone who is worth it.
32. I’m a undercover poet.
33. I can’t eat Chinese food because I was traumatized as a child with a cockroach in my stirfry rice.
34. Every morning I start my day by reading a chapter of a book.
35. I’ve been a pescatarian since birth and I’m currently making the switch to vegetarianism.
36. I’m running a half marathon this summer (2012) but dream of running 26.2 miles and then some.
37. I love reading but school work always gets in the way.
38. I’m still scared of the dark.
39. I hate having chapped lips when I run.
40. I love anything written by Octavia Butler.
41. I hate moving and packing.
42. It is very difficult for me to throwaway clothing.
43. I recently have decided to be more adventurous with my meals and have fallen in love with cooking.
44. I’m an archaeologist.
45. I love shopping at Goodwill.
46. I love collecting recipes and spend the better part of my time on the internet surfing for them.
47. I have a twitter but rarely use it.
48. I use to tell people I was 5’8 thinking that I was 5’7 when I’m really just 5’6
49. I use to sing in the gospel choir in college.
50. I love the mid-west only during the summer time
51. I make jewelry during my free time.
52. I’ve never been in love.
53. I live for Girl Scout cookie season.
54. I’m cautious about the company I keep.
55. Five tattoos and counting.
56. I use to have hamsters as pets when I was younger because my mom thought I couldn’t handle a rabbit.
57. I have a working relationship with my father.
58. The most influential person in my life is my mother.
59. The best place I’ve ever visited was Tanzania, but Nice, France comes in a close second.
60. I like pretending I’m an adult but my mother still pays for my cell phone bill.
61. I love Game of Thrones and True Blood, it’s a slight obsession.
62. I use to love cats, but now I love dogs.
63. I fell in love with archaeology after my first field season at Kingsley Plantation.
64. I love wearing my glasses.
65. My facebook page doesn’t explain who I am but rather how I’d like to be perceived.
66. I have 5 friends that I would do anything for.
67. I really didn’t cry at my high school graduation or my undergraduate one.
68. I’m not good at saving money.
69. I have an unusually hard finger nails.
70. I screen my calls.
71. I’m a morning person.
72. I love flying.
73. Interning with the Smithsonian was the best experience of my life.
74. I use to be a born again Christian
75. I’ve been skydiving and can’t wait to do it again.
76. I use to be a girl scout. Troop 596!
77. I went natural in 2009.
78. My first tattoo is the epitome of cliché “just turned 18” foolishness, but I still love it.
79. I was called a marshmallow as a child.
80. I spent the summer of 2007 working at Chuck E Cheese to buy an iPhone. That phone is now the most expensive paper weight I own.  
81. I’m a runner undercover as a couch potato.
82. I hate outhouses!!
83. I’m absolutely helpless without my phone.
84. I’ve been New York but didn’t go see the Statue of Liberty.
85. I have a hard time keeping in touch with people

87. I’ve studied French throughout middle school and high school, yet I only know two or three sentences max.
88. I watch Seinfeld everyday at 7pm on TBS
89. There was a year of my life that was dedicated to playing WOW for 12 hours a day.
90. I’m scared that I’ll become allergic to everything like my mother.
91. My favorite breakfast is avocado mashed on toast with a soft fried egg on top.
92. I love dandelion root tea!
93. I love outdoor sports.
94. I don’t have a green thumb.
95. Kiswahili is the most beautiful language I’ve ever tried to learn.
96. I love going on cruises.
97. I’m really bad at making fruit and green smoothies. They NEVER turn out good.
98. I went back packing with my mother through Europe when I was 16.
99. I love dried mango.
100. I’m a hippie at heart mixed with a little neo-soul
